Field of HopeMemorial bench

The grass square at the steadings has now been planted with daffodils and is Benbecula’s Marie Curie Field of Hope. There are a number of stone seats for you to relax on and also a wooden bench for you to eat your lunch at. A beautiful oak memorial bench is also set outdside: this was presented to the steadings by Etta MacDonald in memory of her husband, Peter “Red Tie” MacDonald, who grew up in Nunton and spent many years working at the steadings with his family.

We are just a few minutes’ walk from a Culla Bay, a typical Outer Hebridean sandy beach, making this the perfect place to stop for refreshments and/or shelter after a day in the elements.

Keep an eye out for our two cats as you wander around outside. “Eddie” and “Vino” are brothers and spend the day around the buildings and sometimes in visitors’ cars! Please try not to let them inside the steadings when you call in and see us as they are only allowed in their own living quarters (the stables). Please take care when you drive away as they have been known to hop into a car for a ride or sleep underneath.
